  • ASPARAGUS PICKING AT PORTER’S PATCH, NAVARINO, WI

Posted on May 22nd, 2010 troy No comments

    Good Day from Porter’s Patch.

Asparagus picking will only last for about 2 more weeks, so if you need some Fresh, Tender Asparagus, call today to place an order and stop out at the Farm Store for a visit.

Strawberries are looking super, most fields are at full blossom with the bee’s busy pollinating.  We anticipate an early  Strawberry opening  for picking if our warm weather stays around,  possibly around June  8th to the 15th.

All the new plantings of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries are growing well.  They like the warm spring weather.  The corn maze and colored corn was planted this last week, a little rain will help them sprout.  The pumpkins, squash, pickling cucumbers, and  gourds will be planted this upcoming week.

Our early raspberries have started to blossom, so the raspberry picking season could also be early this year.

SEE YOU SOON AT PORTER’S PATCH

  • Hello from Porter’s Patch in Navarino, Wisconsin

Posted on April 19th, 2010 troy No comments

Asparagus season is almost here.  Warm days and nights will help it grow in northeast Wisconsin and we can get caught up on our orders.  Unfortunately we will still have some cool days and nights and the Asparagus does not like to grow in that weather and we get backed up on our orders because there is none to be picked.  Call Porter’s Patch at 715-758-8162  as we are talking pre-picked orders now for the upcoming season.

The Strawberries are all uncovered from the straw mulch that helps protect them from our harsh Wisconsin winters.  The straw mulch is now placed in the isles of the rows which helps keeps the weeds down and provides a nice walk way for the u-pick pickers and a place to kneel.  A lot of new growth can be seen as you look down the rows, which is always a good sight.  All the irrigation pipes are set up and ready to go  as soon buds then blossoms will appear and those need to be protected with overhead irrigation from frosty nights in Wisconsin.

Raspberries look to be in good shape with a lot of new growth.  Unfortunately it looks like I lost a whole row of my purple Royalty variety due to winter damage.

All the new Strawberry, Raspberry and Blueberry plants are to be delivered Wednesday April 21st,  so it will be a busy rest of the week getting everything planted.

Pumpkins, pickling cucumbers and Squash seeds will not be planted till about the end of May.

See you soon at Porter’s Patch
