Strawberry Picking April 2021

Hello Strawberry Picking Enthusiasts!

2021 Pick Your Own Strawberries & Peas begin Tuesday June 15 at 8am…….Pre-Picked Strawberries & Peas Start Friday June 11th.  We have entered the spring season at the Farm.  The warmer temps feel so good on the soul and the Farm.  Our Fresh Picked Asparagus & Lettuce availability is just around the corner.  We just need to wait till around beg-May for these fresh goodies.  We have begun the planting process for getting everything in the ground.  A few of the fields have been worked up, soon seeds and plants will be in the ground and start to flourish at the Farm.  Anticipation about strawberry picking starts to ramp up this time of the year and only builds till they are ready for the picking.  Strawberry picking at the Farm usually starts about mid-June and only last 2 to 3 weeks.  Fresh Peas (edible pods and garden shucking types) will also be available for picking around the Strawberry season, along with pre picked peas.  We offer both pre picked and pick your own strawberries during our season.  Strawberries are sold by the pail or box for pick your own.  We Pick Strawberries are sold by the Quart or 8 quart Box.  The fields for the u pick strawberries have easy access from your vehicle, you park right next to the field you are picking in, can’t get any easier than that.  The Strawberry Picking Farm is located, only 20 minutes from Green Bay, a short distant from the Fox Valley, 30 minutes for Strawberry Picking Appleton area, 18 miles from Clintonville, and a very short drive from Hortonville, Suamico, and Neenah areas.

We want to invite your family and friends to the Farm this year to enjoy one of our picking adventures or just stop out to pick up some Fresh Picked Produce and veggies from the Farm Store to take home to your dinner table.  Stay tuned for more updates on our blog post from your Friendly Farmer Troy or follow our daily activities on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/porterspatch.?ref=ts

Happenings at the Farm Jan 2020

Happenings at the Farm

A new decade is upon us at the Farm, as 2020 has rolled in.  We are very excited about the upcoming growing season that is just around the corner.  The last few seasons have been very challenging with the record amounts of moisture that mother nature handed us.  We look forward to the upcoming season with new and old challenges that may arise.  We are constantly planing how to make your experience at the Farm even better than your last visit.  Every year we make some changes, some are small and some years the changes might be very drastic in the eyes of some.  Yet they are all done in a manner to improve how we operate, but more importantly to improve your time here on the Farm  whether you are picking berries or walking through the Corn Maze during Farmtoberfest.

We are busy getting all our seed and plant orders in and paid for.  Planning and organizing where we are going to plant everything as it changes year to year with all our rotations.  Going through a lot of the equipment and getting them all ready for the busy season.  Some work happens in the Hoop House, as we start planting in March and are currently growing spinach and lettuce.

Spring will soon be upon us and of course strawberry picking.  Really!  Winter is a time for us to regenerate our energy for the upcoming seasons, but also to reflect on our blessings and why we are so grateful.

We hope you and your family will venture to the Farm this spring, summer & fall and enjoy what we have to offer. What a great way to get in touch with your food and who is growing it. There’s nothing like spending a little time in the country and breath some fresh country air.

Here are the approximate dates for the upcoming 2020 harvest events at the Farm.

March 13 – Farm’s 106th birthday in the family

Beginning of May – Asparagus, Lettuce and Spinach

Middle of June – Our Strawberry & Pea Picking Adventures

3rd week of June – Cucumbers, Tomatoes & Green Beans

Beginning of July – Raspberries

Middle of July – Blueberries

Saturday August 1st – Closed for private wedding

Strawberry Picking March 2019

March 13 – Farm’s 105th birthday in the family

Beginning of May – Asparagus & Lettuce

Middle of June – Our Strawberry & Pea Picking Adventures

3rd week of June – Cucumbers, Tomatoes & Green Beans

Beginning of July – Raspberries

Middle of July – Blueberries

Once the Strawberry Picking season starts we try to be open every day from 8am to 5pm. Times and days are subject to change due to weather, picking conditions and availability.

Honeoye is our earliest ripening berry, they are very plentiful, but can be on the smaller size. Jewel is a berry that ripens a little later than a Honeoye and tends to be bigger, just not as plentiful. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that you can pick a certain variety when you arrive at the Farm due to a lot of variables that affects our picking schedule. Keep in mind that both berries are berry berry sweeeeet!

You have two options when you arrive to pick your own strawberries. Pick a pail of berries for $11, a great option if you just want a few fresh sweet berries. Pick a flat for $25, this is your best value at the Farm. We do allow you to heap both of the containers. This price also includes the cost of your container. A pail will hold about 5 to 6 # heaping and a flat will hold about 14 to 16 # heaping. Keep in mind the size and water content in the berries does vary the weight of the berries.

We also will have a large selection of Pre-Picked Strawberries available daily. Keep in mind, we only take orders one day in advance, as many variables effect our picking schedule. We do recommend placing an order, especially if you are not picking up till the afternoon hours. We sell by the Quart for $5.50 or a full flat for $44.

Other item available at the Farm Store during Strawberry season:

Peas, Asparagus, Lettuce, Green Beans, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Pectin (sure jell), Hullers, Beverages, Hats, Tee’s, and Hoodies.
